PH influence on Dissolved Oxygen!

Post by Admin on Thu Aug 11, 2011 5:55 am

Speaking from personal experience of `Supersaturation`of DO via a corresponding PH of 10 due to C02 consumption by Algae during either `Green Water` or the dreaded BlanketWeed Twisted Evil an explanation has been forthcoming Cool

Bacteria responsible for `Decomposing` Organic Matter are extremely sensitive to even slight fluctuations in PH ...

This would indicate that the bacteria responsible for decomposition of organic matter do not live over a pH of 7.0. Thus as the pH is increased, more and more bacteria die off so that oxygen concentration values are maintained at a high level.

Hi Mio

Great stuff, What group of bactria are we talking about?Any chance of any links. Where do with hetertophic bacteria fit in and how. Just some question which imediately come to mind.

Best Regards Dave

The Heretotrophs (comprise more than 95% of living organisms) decompose Organic Matter whilst consuming copious O2 in the process and at room temperature can multiply exponentially such as during this particular experiment.

Adjusting the PH up decreased the Bacteria`s survival rate thereby maintaining high DO values.

I had experienced this pehomena in my own systems and was pleased to have it confirmed experimentally Very Happy
