My Mad Kohaku Hannibal

Post by Admin on Thu Jul 21, 2011 8:51 pm

For members unfamiliar with Hannibal`s history Rolling Eyes He acquired his name aptly due to his fruitcake murderous tendencies as a Babe. Shocked

Initially brought in from the pond as a little Friend to a very sick shiro the same age who expired sadly.. Hannibal had to be housed with the Fancies due to my not having QT facilities in those days.

Following an attack on the dominant Black Moore Telescope which I won`t go into detail with Shocked a Tank divider had to be employed and by this time Hannibal`s slight red sore emerging ulcer needed treating.

I began to bond with all 5 inches of the little Monster after he began to hand feed Very Happy

The ulcer continued to deteriorate however and water was beginning to ingress... I truly feared I would lose him at this juncture.

Several Forum Members were helping me at that time Smile and the Chap who gave Hannibal his Name suggested I try Koiclear as all other Topicals had failed Crying or Very sad It worked a treat combined with a multivitamin and loony tunes H began to heal up Very Happy

When transferred to the Goldfish pond with two other Koi Babes H taught them both to hand feed Smile

A GO Tank was installed later for he and a Gin Chag where Hannibal quickly learned to literally `fight` for his share of the food Rolling Eyes

This behavior pattern has continued into adulthood as can bee seen in the most recent episode in the life of one Crazy Koi Babe.

All Grown Up ... Hannibal .... I Love him to bits but maintain Kohaku are the `Dumb Blondes` of the Koi Variety World due to keeping this Goofy little Koi Babe.

We have a similar kohaku, first to feed, will hand feed and did so from day 1. I paid a daft sum of money for him/her from a well known koi dealer and I recon that where our white spot may have come in.

He`s very pretty Sweetie ... BUT !

Hmmm ? Did you not QT him Alan ? Naughty!

If he brought it with him....He should already have a degree of acquired Immunity to that particular ICH strain unless numbers proliferate sufficiently via the other Babes to overwhelm him.... unlikely if treated promptly though.

No Han, Nagoshi. Very lively and hangs around with the biggest koi in the pond. Hand feeds and is always first there.

Is the Babe as Goofy aka the `Dumb Blonde` in the pond Alan...

By that I mean oblivious to all and everything around them Rolling Eyes I mentioned such because numerous other Members of Koi Fora observed this behavior in their Kohaku too.

Nagoshi I am not familiar with but they do look Dainichi-esque ?

Is the Bloodline Dainichi Parentage Alan ?

Now that there`s much less Sunlight Rolling Eyes I decided to pull the shade net back only covering half of the Vat with a `clear` net covering the other half so the Babes are allowed more Natural Light for the next month or so....

Hannibal was curious Very Happy

Hi Chi, I am not sure of bloodlines etc, once I have learned to keep koi, I will learn more on types, bloodlines etc. I still have a pond full, of mutts with the odd half decent koi. Nothing that you would enter in a show though.

No such thing as a `Mutt `Alan ......

Mio is a disgrace being Doitsu and waaaay past his prime ... which his Character more than makes up for. Very Happy

One can take the whole `Pedigree` Koi collecting obsession way too far IMO.

I am with you in that the `System` or more APTLY Parameters of said System be maintained Optimal for our Koi Babes .

And Welcome Home Sweetie Very Happy

I`m simply DYING to know how your Koi Babes are now ?

We were very apprehensive on the trip home, not sure what we would find with leaving the RDF ticking away unattended. One new koi jumped out of the pond the morning we left for our holiday so I had to rush around hanging anything I could find to stop any more jumpers whilst we were away.

The one that jumped ended up under a pallet which was holding our Nexus 310 at the side of the pond so we didnt notice it had jumped out of the pond. It was only when one of our Viszlas kept running in and out obsessed with something under the pallet. We thought it would be a toad but was shocked to find our new koi seemingly dead on the floor.

After struggling to get it out and back into the water, I held it for about a minute, it then started to breath. Some scale damage and abrasions but we had no choice but to leave it. By the time we left it was swimming around like a mad thing. It seems well now but still has a few abrasions.

One other koi has some damage from who knows where. The scales in a small patch are raised and purple. I will order some topical treatment today and sedate it tomorrow and investigate further.

What would you recommend? I think Koi Clear has been given rave results but will do a bit of research today.

I wouldn`t hesitate to recommend `KoiClear` Alan, it is awesome ... and Waterproof too.

When you sedate him, take a Gill snip to see if any Critters remain.

Meds will make them Flck/Flash/Jump Sweetie.
