Poly tunnel is not an option. At the end of October, I will refit all of the 1" Poly carb to the sides of the pond to make it weather proof. Last year, I maintained 8 deg with this system and a little heat. It also keeps my tree ferns growing and frost free.

I want to replace the roof eventually just to let more sunlight in and insulate better in winter.

The Koi Vat last Winter maintained 17C with a 500 watt titanium heater Shocked

When I replaced half the shade net recently with clear net Alan .... the Koi Babes spent equal amounts of time either side.

I would like more light to penetrate during Winter though ...but not during Summer with a south facing system.

Last winter we used a 10kw on the qt. Was on and off very quikly so I recon they were more economical. Ask your supplier for Economy 10, half price leccy off peak.

We have a `Heatwave` of 25C forecast next week so the `Silver Dollar currently in the Tropical WLP will get a reprieve ... and not be carted back to the Indoor tank just quite yet Very Happy

Even though the weather forcast is for a mini heatwave I have still started putting the covers on due to the heavy leaf fall.It will be interesting to see what the greenhouse effect will be, although I don,t get much direct sunlight on the pond at this time of the year.

Mio

Don,t know what the U rateing is But it is 16mm thick. I found this suffiicient for keeping down the wind chill . however it is quite flexable and therfore rquired 2x2 timbers underneath for support and for securing. If I were to do it again I would go for thicker as less support timbers would be needed.

I have just covered the `Tropical` WLP with floated UV stabilized bubble wrap due to Gale Force bitingly cold winds Twisted Evil

The Silver Dollar will have to be brought indoors soon ....I simply cannot afford to maintain him at 24C over Winter affraid much as I would love too since utility bills hiked 18 % recently affraid
