Duncan states on his forum that he has had some success at 4.5ppm on Days 1, 2 & 3. and your link Dr Johnson 15ppm. As I am in fairly soft water I will try the lower approach. However I will artificially rais both K.H & G.H prior to carrying out this treatment to be on the safe side.Wish me luck

Best Regards Dave

Thanks for the link. Which is just what I need. Combining DR Johnsons link and dosage of 15ppm seems to compare with the fishdoc link and is the doasage rate for a p.H. of between 7 & 7.5. I will raise both k.H & G.H. to be on the safe side. Not sure if turning the filter off for a few hours is a good idea though.I am assuming one dose of this is enough?? 5400 gallons at 15ppm=368 grms. This starting to get an expensive exercise. Best REgards Dave

Your choice whether you turn the Filter off or not Dave .. I wouldn`t bother personally ....

Scrape/Scope following treatment to assess whether follow-up treatments are required Sweetie ...

Due the fluke problem being secondary to the wound on my sanke I now wonder if I could get away with lower doses for 3 days to give the wound a chance to heal. I could always get any straglers a week later with fluke M if needed.

Thanks for your help . I will let you know what I decide and what I am happy with. I have until the weekend to allow the combat to disapate and do sufficient water changes before I decide. In the meantime I will monitor the situation and do a few more scrapes on other koi to see if there are any more infected with flukes before making my final disicion.

I will take another look at the sanke on thursday and see if she is still on the mend and treat her accordingling.

best Regards dave

Dave ...

This link suggests mixing it in a Bucket with I`m assuming regular cold water Sweetie ...

I have never used the Chemical myself personally ... so have zero experience with it etc ...

I have used it for sterilizing nets and bowls etc and it does amediately disperse in water. Great link mio some great prices. I think I will order a 5kg as it always comes in handy and in smaller quantities is very expensive. Thanks again

Re: Flukes and how to get rid of them

Post by DaveB on Wed Jul 11, 2012 9:11 pm

Hi Folks I have not been on for a while as I have been busy. Anyway One of my own koi has had a couple of raised scales, nothing too serious but had not healed on its own with just the recent treatments of CT which I had hoped. Whilst ahving her out to topicallty treat. I discovered a couple of flukes ie one gill and one body fluke. Perhaps this is what has caused her to rub on something and cause a raised scale.

Every thing is looking good with the sanke and it is past 7 clear days since the last CT treatment. I am now wondering wether to treat the pond with TElmin( unabel to get superverm) as I am sure one or two other koi have them too and on occation are flicking. I will scrape a few more to confirm this before treaating. Duncan has done quite a few tests with Temlin, which has given good results and is very cheap ( about £6 to treat the pond) If it works like superverm ( similar ingredients) what is the protocol for treatment of superverm ie any water changes afterwards or do you leave in the system for 7 days to distroy gill fluke eggs hatching. Best Regards Dave

Dave ....

I`ve been busy too Sweetie ... new floors (concrete) etc ...

I would not use or recommend Telmin personally ... but would if unable to purchase Supaverm opt for Flub 5% instead and administer a minimum of 2 applications via Acetone dilution ...

Duncan will give you the Telmin dosage rates however should you choose his Treatment Protocol Very Happy

We all have our own favourite Meds etc Wink
