Unknown parasite or rotifer

Post by alank on Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:55 pm

Any idea what these may be? I have managed to kill off most of the rotifers in my bio tank by accident,(please dont ask). These creatures seem to be eating the carcasses. I hope its not chilondella, there seems to be a tail so they may be rotifers. These are on bio chips from the bio tank.

I can`t see the Flagellum (tail) but if not Tetrahymena Then they look like `Anisonema` to me ..

I felt awful PP-ing the K3 Alan knowing it would take out all the Rotifers along with the Heretotrophic Bacteria Crying or Very sad so know how you feel Sweetie ...

I would go for the tetrahymena. Thanks Mio, its a relief. The koi are fine but I have a nitrite spike. Yesterday it was 1.01, down to 0,71 today. I switched the shower off for 2 days when the temperatures plummeted, that probably the cause. Its been back on for 2 days now so hopefully all will be OK. I am slowing down on feeding as temps are falling. Currently 15.4.

I would quit feeding them until `Nitrite`values are back down to zero Sweetie...

Neither Tetrahymena or Chilodonella have Flagella (tails) Alan ... so if those protists did they won`t be either Tetra or Chilo ....

What is the `Nitrate` Value ? mine spiked to 10 when I decommissioned the Sand Filter recently Rolling Eyes with Nitrite @ 0.25 mg/l ...

Fortunately I had already salted following the `Feeding-On-Demand`fiasco Embarassed

My nitrates are constantly 70, always have been, PH7.6, Ammonia 0.

I didn't see the long tails, I thought I saw a small tail on one but could be wrong.

Did the Bakki not lower the Pond `Nitrate` Values Alan ?

70 ppm Nitrate will impact Fish Health long term Sweetie ... Is there Nitrate in your `supply` water ?
